March 30, 2006

We've been checking the cloud conditions as a class assignment- Tuesday was Cirrus, Wednesday Cumulous, and today was Stratus. The clouds have been dropping in elevation, and it is just overcast today.
We're reading poetry in reading class, I had forgotten that I actually do enjoy reading some poems. I used to have a book of them by Michael Ondatje that I liked, and a few by James Welch and Joy Harjo, and more that I can't recall right now.
I'm glad tomorrow is arriving, it's time to pay some bills, go to the store, and have a good weekend.
---
Our village ran out of diesel, now we'll have to import it from Teller, I think it's a fee of $10 per drum to have a drum delivered to your house. Oil is over $4 a gallon now. And I heard it's like that in the Lower 48 too- no wonder things are getting expensive- all the shipping costs must be rising.

---
I'm starting to feel better, I was almost sick for a few days, but it never got to the point where I was miserable. People have been talking about bird flu often, and there isn't a terrifying fear- just headshaking like a "can you imagine if..." kind of feeling . I haven't heard of anyone who says they will still hunt birds this season- most of the people I've heard say they're not going to. And those sand cranes fly right over Brevig as they head south. They are so noisy and a truly beatiful sight to see in their tremendous flocks, yet they're usual welcome arrival will be heralded differently this year.
