Today was Heather's 4th birthday, and Jeff and Kelly's presents showed up right on time. She was happy! Kelly Ann turned 7 months old today- Jan said she weighs 20 pounds. She's doing so much better, and we're so glad too.

The heater smells better now, we had smelled exhaust a couple of times, and it turned out it was coming from the hole the drip line goes through to get to the burner. The metal had broken when the previous owners tinkered with it, and was held in place with a heavier gauge copper wire. Anyway, I knew I could fix it if I only had some tinfoil. But we didn't. Except... for Hershey Kisses! Jan, Shannon and I ate a bunch of them, glad for the excuse, and I made a long roll of the foils overlapping each other and wrapped it around the drip line and crammed it back in the hole. Now we don't smell exhaust anymore.

Yesterday Mina's son Henry and I linked our laptops and shared some music. He has a Windows XP platform, and mine is a Mac, and it took us a while to get them to network. We were able to link through bluetooth- which was slow, then through our airport cards, and then through the ethernet cable- which was far superior to the other two.

Things will work themselves out in due time, that's how life is going along right now. There's all the planning and wishing, dreaming, and the daily business, the monthly bills. And even though it can seem overwhelming I don't panic. I think that helps a lot.

I saw a front page picture with caption in "The Nome Nugget" of a slice of some brown grainy whale blubber that looked like wood. The caption said a person in Gambell found it (while digging I think) and guessed it must be at least 500 years old. They sent a piece of it in to a university and it was carbon dated to something like 936 AD. Crazy huh? If only Muktuk could talk, what stories it would tell huh? A world where man had not yet gained a destructive grip on such a major amount of natural resources. A world where the dreamers would dream different dreams.
Today I thought about the forest instead of the trees.
