Some of the pictures were taken a few days ago, when we were still in our old house- the cute ones of Shannon in her mom's boots, and me with baby all bundled up to go visit grandma. The one that shows the outside of the house shows what's called the "day tank" for our water heater, versus "drum" for the regular heater. I spent hours cleaning out the 55 gallon drum, scooping out slushy, used oil with ice flakes (like when you freeze orange juice.) I used a plastic spoon and when I was finally done I rinsed it out with several gallons of diesel. The diesel goes out through the air vent bung hole, through the valve, past a water trap, then through a filter and into the copper line that goes to the heater. Today I moved 15 gallons of diesel out of the day tank and into the other drum, since day tanks usually last quite a while longer than the heaters.
I have been so busy moving, it's nice to finally enjoy our new house for real. The girls took an hour and a half bath last night and an hour bath today, they think it's the best! I am amazed at how amazingly convenient running water and sewer are, they're conveniences you kinda take for granted until you end up like me and live for a couple years in a house with no water or sewer hook ups. It was a character building experience- it really was. I could still live like that if it was necessary- but to just be able to take a shower, and wash dishes without heating our hand-carried-water in a pot on the electric burner, and dumping all our waste water. Well it goes without saying.
