These are several Christmas Eve Photos, the girls got matching Kuspuks from my mom, and they loved them!
So much has happened since I last wrote...
I just got back on Monday from Anchorage. Kelly Ann got sick a week and a half ago, she started with a mild recurring fever that progressively got worse. At first we thought she might be teething, but when her fever spiked to 105 we took her to the clinic in the middle of the night. We gave her Tylenol and a lukewarm bath, and she cooled down, but she was still sick the next day.
Our clinic said we had better go to Nome, and since Janice's mom was in Anchorage I went with Kelly and she stayed home with the girls, who were also sick. Kelly's x-rays showed she was developing pneumonia, and we were med-evac'd (sp? medivac) to Anchorage on a Lear Jet. We stayed in the ICU of the pediatric wing in the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) for a week, and the care there was excellent. I was wore out by the fourth day, and really hadn't brought enough clothes, so I took a break, showered, did laundry and walked around the facility. In the gift shop, which sells native creations such as carvings, beadwork and clothing, I could just make out Janice's earrings in the display case. The shop was closed unfortunately, I would have loved to have gone in and looked at everything. Baby recovered steadily, and we were discharged Sunday afternoon. We stayed at Quyanna housing and flew out the next day.
During the week after Christmas the whole village attends the eskimo games in our school gym. I participated in some of the games- finger pull, flapjack, a couple of painful games ear pull, and this game where two opponents push each other with a stick (in this case-rulers taped together) placed just below the nose and above the lips. Ouch. There were snow machine races, foot races, raffles, door prizes and it was just fun.
I would like to add more, but not right now....
