Today, Johan Hultin and Jeffery Taubenberger gave a presentation in our school, expressing gratitude to the village council, and people of Brevig for the key role they played in helping decode the 1918 Spanish Flu's genome sequence. Hultin and Taubenberger are being filmed for a documentary, which I would like to see. They both expressed hope that the now cultured virus will help labs study and create new vaccines that could save millions of lives if the H5N1 "bird flu" virus mutates into a virus transmittable by humans.

PBS has an article on Taubenberger.
